Tips For Staying Positive

Posted 11th February 2018

Today post will be a little more personal than usual. You probably don’t know that much about me but one thing my friends and family would tell you is that I am a very happy and positive person. I get excited very easily about everything and always try to look at the bright side. Winter time is when most people are feeling a bit low, days are short and gloomy (especially if you live in England), Christmas is over and summer seems too far away. All of this got me thinking – “What a great opportunity to share my tips for staying positive.” Mind you I’m not an expert, these are just things that help me and that I have learned over the years through reading and listening to a number of podcasts.

  1. Yoga. Discovering Yoga with Adriene on YouTube has completely changed my life. I used to be scared of yoga as I’m not very flexible and I don’t speak the lingo but Adriene makes it really fun and accessible for everyone. Her videos changed the way I view exercising and how I feel about myself….all for the better. Plus it’s free and you can do it at home in your PJs – what’s not to like!
  2. Change your perspective. let me give you an example: I was getting ready to do a very mindful yoga session at home when my lovely hubby started making a lot of noise upstairs. At first, I got annoyed but then I thought to myself  “This noise means I’m not alone. I have a husband, a partner in life who shares this home with me and that is lovely.” After that, all my irritation disappeared and I felt happy. So next time you get annoyed at cleaning the house remember what that means? You have a beautiful place to live that you can call home. You see what I mean? This small change in the way I think was revolutionary for me.
  3. Start every morning by listing 3 (or more) things you are grateful for. I do this first thing before I get up, just in my head. Those things can be very simple: I have a comfy bed to sleep in, I have food for breakfast, healthy body etc. That way you start your day on a positive note and sometimes that’s all you need to have a great day.
  4. Wear whatever makes you feel amazing! Forget about trends and fashion, what makes you feel good? I love girly pretty pink dresses and they might not be trendy or cool (although elegance has never gone out of style) but it doesn’t matter. They make me feel confident, comfortable and happy and that is all that matters. (Shop my pretty lace pink dress HERE)
  5. Talk to yourself like you would to your best friend. Often we are our own worst enemies. I know I am guilty of saying mean things to myself all the time, the things I would never say to my best friend. It doesn’t really make any sense and I am working hard at doing it less.
I hope some of this was helpful and I understand that it can be hard and maybe it sounds silly to some people, but why not try? What’s the worst that can happen?
Which tip was your favourite? Will you try any of them? Do you have more tips for me? Let me know in the comments below:)
